Iran's Revolutionary Guard Navy said that a route announced by what they said are “certain parties” for transit through the Strait of Hormuz without coordination with Iran is "unacceptable and dangerous."
The navy warned that vessels sailing outside routes designated by Iran are engaging in a "dangerous and prohibited" action, adding that any transit beyond those routes would face consequences.
It also said coordination with Iranian authorities is mandatory for passage through the strait, adding that “measures will be taken” against any vessel that fails to comply.
The statement appears to be a response to Oman announcing earlier two temporary routes north and south of the existing shipping lane in the strait to facilitate the safe passage of vessels.
Oman’s statement said the routes were coordinated with the International Maritime Organization.
