  • Jordan condemns 'Israel’s seizure of Greek Orthodox church land in occupied East Jerusalem, calling it a violation of international law.

Jordan has strongly condemned Israel’s seizure of land belonging to the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate in the Silwan neighbourhood of occupied East Jerusalem, calling it a violation of international law and the historical and legal status quo in the city.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ambassador Fuad Al-Majali said in a statement that Jordan “absolutely rejects all unilateral, illegitimate, and provocative measures” aimed at altering Jerusalem’s status, stressing that Israel has no sovereignty over the occupied city or its Islamic and Christian holy sites.

He reaffirmed Jordan’s position that the establishment of an independent Palestinian state remains the only path to achieving a just and lasting peace in the region.

Israeli authorities reportedly took control of the land on Monday, expelling a Patriarchate representative, confiscating equipment, uprooting trees, and fencing off the area.
