  • Saudi Arabia and Uruguay draw one-all in a World Cup group-stage match at 2026 tournament.
  • Uruguay stages second-half comeback with an 80th-minute equaliser after Saudi Arabia led at halftime.

The Saudi Arabian national football team and Uruguay shared a one-all draw in a tense Group Stage encounter at the FIFA World Cup 2026 on Tuesday finishing at 03:04 AM Mecca time.

The result leaves both sides with a point in a group that also includes Spain and Cape Verde.

Saudi Arabia opened the scoring in the 41st minute through defender Abdul Ilah Al-Amri, who reacted quickly inside the box following a corner kick and finished with his right foot into the center of the goal.

The defender was shown a yellow card just three minutes later, as the first half ended with Saudi Arabia leading one-nil.

Uruguay increased attacking pressure in the second half after making several substitutions, including the introduction of Agustín Canobbio and Juan Sanabria.

The tactical shift paid off in the 80th minute when Maximiliano Araújo scored the equaliser with a low left-footed strike from close range, sending the ball into the bottom-left corner of the Saudi net.

Both teams pushed for a late winner, but defensive organization on both sides ensured the match ended level.

The draw keeps the group wide open as the tournament progresses, with Spain and Cape Verde still in contention for qualification.
