Aoun praises considering Lebanon’s sovereignty in MoU

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun issued an official declaration on Monday expressing profound interest in the newly brokered memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the United States and Iran, hailing its explicit mandate to freeze active military hostilities and halt spiraling regional escalation.

President Aoun highly commended the accord's formal recognition of Lebanon's distinct political and security framework.

He noted that the text explicitly acknowledges that securing Lebanon’s domestic stability is an inseparable requirement for any credible, long-term blueprint aimed at anchoring peace across the wider Middle East.

Aoun drew attention to the heavy, asymmetric toll the Lebanese populace has endured throughout the recent months of conflict, emphasizing that the civilian population -particularly across hard-hit border regions and dense urban sectors- is desperately looking for these diplomatic declarations to yield real-world results.

"The Lebanese people, especially those in areas subjected to bombardment and widespread destruction who have lost loved ones, livelihoods, and homes, look forward today to seeing these understandings transform into practical steps," President Aoun stated. "This must put a definitive end to the cycle of violence and lay the groundwork for an era of stability, recovery, and reconstruction."

Aoun extended formal gratitude to the international arbiters who spearheaded the delicate mediation process, praising the global actors who ensured that Lebanon's stabilization remained central to the multi-front ceasefire package.

The Lebanese head of state concluded his address by expressing hope that the US-Iran breakthrough would serve as the entry point for a comprehensive regional settlement.

He reiterated that any viable regional track must firmly preserve state sovereignty and allow the Lebanese government to safely redirect its national focus toward rebuilding shattered infrastructure, reviving the domestic economy, and restoring normal civic life under a secure, unified state authority.
