Iran’s Bank Coordination Council confirmed on Sunday that a "limited cyberattack" targeting a shared digital network caused widespread service disruptions across four major domestic financial institutions, including the National Bank of Iran.
The targeted cyber breach also compromised system operations at Bank Tejarat, Bank Saderat Iran, and Bank Tosee Saderat.
In an emergency statement carried by the state-run news agency IRNA, the council revealed that cybersecurity units immediately deployed protective measures after identifying "unusual signs" within the banks' centralized communication networks.
Officials emphasized that while the digital assault successfully knocked services offline, detailed forensic investigations prove that no customer databases were deleted or accessed by the hackers.
Technical experts have since re-established control over the affected infrastructure, though specialized recovery and security patches are still ongoing across the banking sector.
