Day 104 | US says completed latest strikes on Iran
The United States launched fresh attacks against Iran on Thursday, prompting Tehran to retaliate, as US leaders accused their counterparts of dragging out negotiations for a deal to end the three-month war.
The second straight day of tit-for-tat strikes, with Iran targeting US bases across the Gulf, sent oil prices rising again.
US President Donald Trump, who had repeatedly said negotiations with Tehran were close to an end, said Wednesday that Iran keeps "playing us for suckers" and will now "have to pay the price".
Hours after, US Central Command (CENTCOM) said American forces began "additional self-defense strikes" at 5:15 pm on Wednesday Washington time -- early Thursday in Iran -- in response to what it called Tehran's "unwarranted and continued aggression".
Iranian media reported explosions across the south near the Strait of Hormuz, with explosions heard in Bandar Abbas, Qeshm and Minab, and sources reporting hits by "enemy projectiles" in Kargan and Sirik.
CENTCOM said later that it had "completed" its strikes on "Iranian military surveillance capabilities, communication systems, and air defense sites".
In response to the US strikes, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said they had struck US targets on bases in Kuwait and Bahrain, and that they also "hit and destroyed Sheikh Isa air bases", according to the state-run IRNA news agency.
Iran also renewed its warning over the Strait of Hormuz, a vital waterway for oil and gas transport which it has essentially closed.
The country's military operational command said the crucial waterway was "completely closed" and that "any vessel traffic" there would be targeted.
CENTCOM denied that, saying "commercial ships are continuing to transit in and out of the Strait of Hormuz tonight".

US President Donald Trump said Thursday he believes Iranian supreme leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei has personally approved a deal to end the Middle East war.
"I understand the answer is yes," Trump told reporters in the Oval Office when asked if Khamenei gave the nod. He added that the agreement in question was a "very strong memorandum of understanding."
Trump says Iran deal signing 'maybe in Europe'
US President Donald Trump on Thursday announced a "great settlement" with Iran to end the Middle East war, saying he expected a deal to be signed in Europe in the coming days.
"We just made a great settlement of the war with Iran," Trump told reporters in the Oval Office, saying that they would "subject to finalization of documents, which should get done, over the next few days, probably have a signing, maybe in Europe."

Iran's semi-official Fars News Agency, citing an informed source close to the country's negotiating team, reported that "no text for a preliminary memorandum of understanding with the United States has been approved," pushing back against Trump's statement.
Kuwait says morning Iran strikes hit airport radar, caused injuries
Kuwait said the Iranian strikes that targeted its territory on Thursday morning had damaged an airport radar and caused injuries.
"The airport's radar was targeted this morning," Kuwait's civil aviation body said in a letter addressed to the International Civil Aviation Organization.
It added that the attack "injured people and caused significant material damage and losses affecting radar facilities, equipment and air traffic management systems".
Trump says attack on Iran tonight is "cancelled"
US President Donald Trump said he has cancelled scheduled military strikes against Iran following what he described as high-level diplomatic developments involving Tehran and multiple regional and international actors.
In a statement, Trump said discussions with Iran had been elevated to the highest levels of Iranian leadership and approved in principle. He claimed that “final points” of an agreement had been endorsed by all involved parties.
Trump added that the planned strikes and bombings “this evening” had been cancelled as a result of the progress in talks.
He also stated that a naval blockade would remain in effect until what he called a “transaction” is finalized, with the time and place of signing to be announced later.
Iran warns US: Any new attack will face stronger response
The commander of Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters issued a warning to the United States on Thursday, saying any new military attacks against Iran would be met with a stronger response than previous confrontations.
In statements carried by Fars News Agency, the commander said Tehran warns Washington against further escalation, stressing that additional attacks would lead to consequences beyond earlier exchanges.
“If the US launches new attacks against us, it will receive a response more severe than before,” the commander said.
The remarks come amid heightened regional tensions and continued exchanges of threats between Iran and the United States.
Iranian officials have repeatedly warned that military pressure would not alter Tehran’s position and could lead to broader instability across the region.

Iran negotiator warns of 'endless quagmire' for US
Iran's chief negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf warned Washington on Thursday to carefully consider its next step in the Middle East war or face years of turmoil and soaring oil and gas prices.
"Wrong strategies and impulsive decisions will reset the entire board for the worse, explode energy infrastructure and markets and create an endless quagmire that you will be stuck in for years," Ghalibaf, who is also Iran's parliamentary speaker, said in a social media post.

Trump tells Fox News he'd like to take Iran's Kharg Island
US President Donald Trump said Thursday he would prefer targeting Iran's main oil export hub, Kharg Island, but questioned whether Americans would support a major escalation of the conflict.
Speaking on Fox News, Trump said more US strikes on Iran were planned for Thursday night and would be "bigger" and "more powerful," though he said he would rather avoid hitting bridges and power plants.
Despite the planned attacks, Trump said Washington remains in talks with Tehran and is still seeking a deal.

Kuwait says dealt with 24 Iranian drones last 48 hours
Kuwait said Thursday that it “detected and dealt” with 24 Iranian drones fired at the country over the past 48 hours.
The statement released by the Kuwaiti Army on X does not clarify how many were intercepted.
It added that the attack resulted in “limited material damage,” with no human casualties.
US military says it struck third tanker violating Iran port blockade
US forces struck and disabled a third commercial oil tanker attempting to bypass their blockade of Iranian ports this week, US Central Command (CENTCOM) said Thursday, adding that it was the ninth such attack since the blockade began.
American forces "acted against Guinea-Bissau flagged M/T Jalveer as it attempted to transport oil from Iran through the Gulf of Oman," CENTCOM said.
"A US aircraft fired two Hellfire missiles into the ship's engine room after the crew repeatedly failed to comply with directions from US forces."
Iranian media reports explosion near Hormuz
Iranian state television reported an explosion off the coast of the city of Sirik in Hormuzgan Province.
The cause of the explosion remains unknown, according to state TV.
