Day 105 | Trump says US ‘settlement’ with Iran could soon end war
US President Donald Trump said Thursday that significant progress had been made toward a potential agreement with Iran that could help end the conflict and reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Speaking from the Oval Office, Trump described the talks as a “great settlement,” suggesting that Iran’s supreme leader supports the effort and that a final deal could be reached within days. He added that Vice President JD Vance could travel to Europe soon to attend a signing ceremony.
Despite Trump's optimism, Tehran signaled that negotiations remain unresolved. Iran’s foreign ministry spokesperson said the country has not made a final decision on any agreement, according to state media. The spokesperson noted that much of the proposed text had already been finalized but criticized Washington for taking shifting positions throughout the negotiation process.
The latest diplomatic developments come amid continued military tensions between the two countries. Earlier Thursday, Trump threatened to seize Kharg Island, a key energy hub that handles about 90 percent of Iran’s crude oil exports. Meanwhile, Iranian officials said their forces targeted US military bases in the region overnight for a second consecutive day, following recent US strikes across Iran.

Iran says draft agreement nearly complete
Iran's Foreign Ministry said the text of a potential agreement with the United States is "nearly complete," while emphasizing that no final deal has been reached.
The ministry said Iranian officials discussed several issues with a Qatari delegation during its recent visit to Tehran, adding that mediators remain actively engaged in efforts to bridge remaining differences. It noted that both Qatar and Pakistan are playing key roles in the mediation process.
Iran also said it has not compromised on what it considers its red lines, rejecting claims that it had altered its positions under pressure or threats.
Despite progress in the negotiations, the ministry stressed that the agreement has not yet been finalized and described reports about the timing or location of a signing ceremony as media speculation.
