President Donald Trump hinted strongly on Sunday that the US knows where Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei is, but fell short of confirming it.

In statements to NBC News, Trump said: “I don’t want to say whether or not I know where he is”.

“But there’s a good probability that I do,” he added.

Trump said Iran’s new leadership, which stepped it after most senior figures, including Ali Khamenei, were wiped out in the initial strikes on February 28 is “more rational and very smart”.

“Younger. I think more rational,” Trump said, comparing Mojtaba Khamenei to his father.

“Injured. He’s pretty badly injured. So there’s a certain bravery there. A lot of people, if they were injured that badly, they wouldn’t be talking about, you know, ‘How are we doing with the United States?’ They’d have other things on their mind. So there’s a certain bravery there. But he is very seriously injured.”

However, he declined to confirm whether he knew Mojtaba’s exact location.
