Alex Miller, a 23-year-old discharged combat soldier in the ‘Israeli’ military originally from the United States, died by apparent suicide last week in Miami, Florida.
Hebrew media reported the incident first on Sunday, attributing his death to severe post-traumatic stress disorder linked to his military service.
In 2022, while serving in the West Bank, Miller was moderately wounded in a car-ramming operation near the Nabi Musa training area south of Jericho.
Five soldiers were injured in the incident, with Miller among those requiring rehabilitation. He later returned to serving in his unit.
His psychological struggles intensified following the death of what Hebrew media says was his close friend, Sgt. First Class (res.) Noam Shemesh, who was killed by RPG fire in Khan Younis, southern Gaza, in 2025.
After honorable discharge, Miller relocated to the United States, where he worked as a security guard in Miami while preparing for further studies.
Recent reports have documented an increase in suicides among ‘Israeli’ soldiers.
At least 60 soldiers died by suicide between October 2023 and April this year, according to a Harretz report.
Between January 2024 and July 2025, 279 soldiers attempted to take their own lives, according to a report published by the Knesset Research and Information Center last October cited by Hebrew media.
