US Democrats slam possible US-Iran deal, say Trump is a ‘fool’

Democratic lawmakers in the United States have sharply criticised the Trump administration’s handling of ongoing negotiations with Iran, warning that a potential agreement could weaken Washington’s position.

Senator Chris Van Hollen told Fox News the conflict and diplomatic track had been “a blunder from the very start,” arguing that the emerging deal could give Iran “more control than it did before” over the Strait of Hormuz.

“When you’re digging a hole, you should stop digging,” he said.

Senator Cory Booker also criticised the negotiations in an interview with CNN, saying he was “outraged” that the possible agreement does not adequately address Iran’s nuclear programme.

“He’s got us in a situation that’s worse than it was before,” Booker said, adding: “Donald Trump is being played as the fool that he is.”
