  • Iran says negotiations with the US are focused on finalising a memorandum of understanding.
  • Tehran describes the mediation process as slow due to decades of tensions with Washington.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said Tehran and the United States are focused on finalising a memorandum of understanding as indirect negotiations continue through regional mediation efforts.

“Over the past week, the opinions have been coming closer,” Baghaei said, adding that both sides are working toward “finalising” the proposed framework.

“We have to wait and see what will happen over the next three to four days,” he added.

Baghaei described the ongoing dialogue process as “time-consuming”, citing decades of hostility between Iran and the US as a major obstacle to progress.

“Some points and wordings on which there were still disagreements were discussed and proposals were made, some of which are still being reviewed and opinions are being expressed,” Iran’s state-run IRNA news agency quoted him as saying.

The spokesman also thanked Pakistan for its mediation efforts amid attempts to narrow differences between Tehran and Washington.

The latest remarks come as diplomatic channels remain active following weeks of indirect talks aimed at reducing tensions and advancing a possible agreement between the two countries.

Officials from both sides have yet to announce a timeline for a final deal, though Iranian officials have recently signaled cautious optimism over the direction of negotiations.
