Iran’s mission to the United Nations has accused Washington and its allies of driving nuclear nonproliferation negotiations toward collapse through what it described as “excessive demands”.

“The NPT Review Conference failed for the third consecutive time due to obstructionism by the United States and its allies,” the mission said in a post on X.

The comments came after UN member states failed to reach consensus at the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty review conference in New York following weeks of negotiations.

According to the US-based Arms Control Association, disagreements intensified in part because Washington attempted to use the conference as a platform for broader negotiations over Iran’s nuclear programme.

Iran’s UN mission also argued that the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, aimed at preventing the spread of nuclear weapons and advancing eventual disarmament, has “no future” without meaningful global efforts toward broader nuclear disarmament.
