  • Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said US “excessive demands” are obstructing ongoing peace negotiations.
  • UN Secretary-General António Guterres called for diplomacy and rejected violations of state sovereignty.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi told United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres that Washington’s “excessive demands” remain the main obstacle to ongoing peace negotiations.

During a phone call with Guterres, Araghchi said the United States had repeatedly damaged diplomatic efforts through what he described as broken promises, contradictory positions and military aggression. Despite this, he said Tehran continues to engage seriously in the Pakistan-mediated talks.

Guterres, according to a statement cited by Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency, rejected the use of force against the sovereignty of any state and stressed the need for diplomacy to restore regional stability.

The discussions come amid continued tensions in the Middle East and ongoing efforts to secure a broader political understanding between Tehran and Washington.
