  • Jean-Luc Mélenchon accuses Europe of enabling US–'Israeli' strikes on Iran.
  • French left-wing leader calls for political break with current foreign policy alignment.

French left-wing figure Jean-Luc Mélenchon, leader of the political movement La France Insoumise, has condemned what he described as “European complicity” in US–'Israeli' strikes on Iran that escalated into wider regional tensions.

In a post on X, Mélenchon argued that the military pressure on Iran would not have been possible without European support or tolerance.

“Trump and Netanyahu’s crude threats to destroy Iran are only possible thanks to European complicity. The world’s peace is reduced to the interests of Trump and Netanyahu’s colonialism,” he wrote.

Mélenchon, who is expected to be a major contender in France’s 2027 presidential race, urged voters to reject what he called France’s alignment with “these criminals” and to “break the leash” during the upcoming election.

His comments place foreign policy and France’s role in Middle East conflicts at the center of his campaign messaging.

The remarks come amid heightened global debate over the escalation between Iran, the United States, and 'Israel', which has triggered broader regional instability.

Critics of Western policy have increasingly accused European governments of indirectly supporting military actions through diplomatic backing or strategic alignment, a claim that continues to divide political opinion across Europe.

Mélenchon’s statements are expected to intensify debate in France over its foreign policy posture, particularly regarding its relations with the United States and 'Israel'.
