US President Donald Trump clarified on Friday that his historic summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping did not include new commitments regarding Taiwan.

Speaking after his departure from Beijing, Trump stated he made "no pledges" to the Chinese leader on the issue.

He further noted that the high-level discussions did not address the sensitive topic of electronic chips.

The President emphasized that he did not ask President Xi to intervene or pressure Tehran regarding the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.

However, Trump confirmed that Xi expressed a clear opposition to Iran possessing nuclear weapons.

Trump reiterated his own administration's position, stating that Iran "will never have a nuclear weapon" under any circumstances.

Iranian military losses

Trump provided a blunt assessment of the ongoing military campaign against Tehran, claiming that "80 percent of Iran's missile capabilities have been destroyed."

He further asserted that the United States has "completely eliminated" the Iranian air force and removed key military commanders.

According to the President, Iran's military manufacturing capabilities have been dismantled.

"We have eliminated the Iranian army, and perhaps we must carry out a light cleaning operation," Trump remarked.

Regarding diplomatic efforts, Trump revealed he recently rejected an Iranian proposal, stating he "threw the proposal away" after finding the opening sentence unacceptable.

Sanctions, nuclear conditions

The White House is currently reviewing the status of sanctions imposed on Chinese oil companies that continue to purchase Iranian crude.

Trump indicated that a decision on whether to lift these penalties will be made "within days."

This review comes as Washington seeks to balance its "strategic partnership" with Beijing against its "maximum pressure" campaign on Tehran.

On the nuclear front, Trump signaled a potential opening for a long-term freeze. He stated he would not object to Iran suspending its nuclear program for a duration of 20 years, provided it is a "real commitment." These comments follow statements from Iranian officials suggesting that complex enrichment issues be postponed to later stages of negotiations.
