A press release from UNICEF on Wednesday reported at least 200 children killed since the start of ‘Israeli’ attacks on Lebanon on March 2nd. UNICEF reported that despite the ceasefire, 59 children have been killed or injured since April 17.

UNICEF also reported its scaling on mental health resources, stating that “770,000 children are experiencing heightened distress from repeated exposure to violence, loss, and displacement.”

What was said

“The impact of repeated exposure to conflict on children’s mental health can be profound and long-lasting.” Said UNICEF Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa, Edouard Beigbeder.

“Children in Lebanon have endured waves of violence, displacement, and uncertainty, often with little or no time to recover. Without urgent support, the psychological scars of this compounded crisis may stay with them for years, affecting not only their well-being, but their future and the future of the country.” he continued.

Since the ceasefire on April 17, ‘Israeli’ strikes have killed 23 children and injured 93, bringing the total up to 200 children killed and over 806 injured since March 2nd.

“Children are being killed and injured when they should be returning to classrooms, playing with friends, and recovering from months of fear and upheaval,” said Beigbeder.

“Nearly a month ago, an agreement was reached to silence the weapons and stop the violence. Reality is proving to be very different. Continued attacks are killing and injuring children, deepening their exposure to trauma and leaving devastating consequences that could last a lifetime.”

‘Israeli’ attacks

At least 2,896 have been killed, with over 8,800 injured in Lebanon since March 2.

Over 400 of those deaths happened during the ceasefire, which started on April 17.

10,600 homes have also been damaged in the same period.

Strikes have displaced over 1.6 million people from the south, which accounts for one-fifth of the entire population of Lebanon.
