Iran said Monday that there has been “no change in the management” of the Strait of Hormuz, after US President Donald Trump said his country’s navy will begin escorting ships through the vital waterway.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) spokesperson Hossein Mohabi said that any maritime movement must comply with the “protocols” issued by the IRGC so vessels can be “secure and safe”.

“Other maritime movements that are contrary to the principles announced by the IRGC Navy will face serious risks. Violating vessels will be stopped with force,” Mohabi warned, in a statement cited by the IRGC-affiliated Tasnim News Agency.
