Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya headquarters, the military's central command, warned Monday that it will attack US forces if they enter the Strait of Hormuz.

The statement comes after US President Donald Trump said his country’s military would begin escorting ships through the blocked waterway, in an operation he dubbed “Project Freedom”.

The commander of the Khatam al-Anbiya HQ Major General Ali Abdollahi, in statements cited by Tasnim News Agency, said they “We will maintain and manage the security of the Strait of Hormuz with all our might and we inform all commercial ships and oil tankers to refrain from any action to transit without coordination with the armed force.”

“We warn that any foreign armed force, especially the aggressive US army, will be attacked if they intend to approach and enter the Strait of Hormuz,” Abdollahi added.
