  • Haaretz newspaper cited an unnamed UN Development program stating that about 8,000 Palestinian bodies are still trapped under rubble in Gaza.
  • Data based on numbers collected by Palestinian Civil Defence authorities.

The Haartz newspaper cited a UN Development program stating that about 8,000 Palestinian bodies remain trapped under the rubble in Gaza.

Recently, the United Nations, the World Bank, and the European Union stated that clearing the rubble in the Gaza Strip would cost up to $1.7 billion and take over 7 years. 3,000 people also remain missing, with no information available on whether they are alive, dead, or detained by ‘Israeli’ forces.

Recover the bodies

Workers from the Civil Defence in Gaza continue to receive many calls from relatives who know exactly where their loved ones are. Unfortunately, the lack of heavy machinery and equipment makes it nearly impossible to recover the bodies.

Many remains are also located past the "yellow line," where 'Israeli' forces remain in control. The UN has told these families that they must await approval from the 'Israeli' side to be able to recover the bodies.

Death toll

The health ministry in Gaza stated that 'israeli' forces have killed over 828 Palestinians since the ceasefire, adding to the total of over 72,000 deaths since October 7 (this is 1 out of 33 people in Gaza), and 172,000 wounded, destroying over 90% of civilian infrastructure. The UN reported it will take over $70 billion to rebuild the infrastructure.
