According to reports citing The Guardian, the special design would place Trump’s image on the inside cover of the passport, alongside excerpts from the Declaration of Independence and the US flag, with a gold-colored signature element.

The State Department, led by spokesperson Tommy Pigott, said the commemorative documents would include “custom artistic design and enhanced imagery” while maintaining existing security features, describing the US passport as “the most secure document in the world.”

Part of “America 250” celebrations

The passports are expected to be part of the broader “America 250” initiative, a government program marking the country’s semiquincentennial.

Planned events reportedly include large-scale public celebrations such as a race on the National Mall and a mixed martial arts event at the White House South Lawn, reflecting a highly visible and entertainment-driven approach to the anniversary programming.

Expanding presidential imagery across institutions

The reported passport design comes amid a wider pattern of Trump imagery appearing across federal spaces and materials.

Public buildings in Washington, including departments such as Justice, Labor, and Agriculture, have reportedly displayed signage featuring Trump alongside historical figures such as Abraham Lincoln under national slogans.

National Park Service passes for 2026 have also been described as featuring Trump alongside George Washington under the “America the Beautiful” branding, with policy warnings issued after reported alterations by visitors.

Currency and monument proposals

Additional commemorative projects under consideration reportedly include a proposed one-dollar coin featuring Trump and preliminary designs for a gold commemorative coin reviewed by federal art officials.

A separate proposal for a 250-foot golden arch monument, informally referred to in reports as the “Trump Arch,” has also received early-stage approval despite reported public criticism.

Debate over symbolism

The expanding use of presidential imagery across official materials has sparked debate among political observers over the boundaries between state symbolism and personal branding in federal design.

While supporters describe the initiatives as patriotic commemorations of national milestones, critics argue they represent an unprecedented personalization of public institutions tied to a sitting president.
