  • 'Israeli' forces admitted to doctoring a photograph to depict slain journalist Ali Shuaib in military gear.
  • The incident has intensified international condemnation regarding 'Israel's' targeting of press workers.

'Israeli' forces have admitted to digitally altering a photograph of a Lebanese journalist to depict him in military fatigues, just days after killing him in a targeted airstrike in southern Lebanon.

The admission follows the deaths of Ali Shuaib, a veteran war correspondent for the Hezbollah-affiliated Al-Manar TV, and siblings Fatima and Mohammad Ftouni, a reporter and cameraman for Al-Mayadeen. The three were killed on Saturday, March 28, 2026, when 'Israel' targeted their clearly marked press vehicle on the Jezzine-Kfarhouna road.

A Fabricated Justification

In the immediate aftermath of the strike, 'Israeli' forces claimed Shuaib was an operative of Hezbollah’s elite Radwan Force using journalism as a "cover" for intelligence gathering. To support this, an official 'Israeli' spokesperson posted a split-screen image on social media. One side showed Shuaib in his blue "PRESS" vest; the other appeared to show him in military camouflage.

However, when pressed by Fox News correspondent Trey Yingst regarding the source and authenticity of the image, 'Israeli' forces issued a remarkably blunt correction:

“Unfortunately there isn’t really a picture of it, it was photoshopped.”

Outcry Over "Flagrant Crimes"

The admission has sparked international condemnation from press freedom groups and Lebanese officials.

The International Press Institute (IPI) called the strike a "targeted attack against the press" and demanded an independent investigation.

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun described the killings as a "flagrant crime" by 'Israel' that violates international treaties protecting journalists in conflict zones.

The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) noted a "disturbing pattern" of 'Israeli' forces accusing journalists of being combatants without providing credible evidence.

Context of the Escalation

The deaths of Shuaib and the Ftouni siblings bring the total number of media workers killed in Lebanon this year to five, amid a significant military escalation by 'Israel' in the south.

Critics argue that the use of doctored imagery is part of a broader disinformation strategy. Human rights groups have frequently pointed to similar unverified claims made against Palestinian journalists in Gaza, where 'Israel' has faced accusations of systemic targeting of media professionals.

While 'Israeli' forces maintain that Shuaib was an active member of Hezbollah’s intelligence apparatus since 2013, the retraction of the only visual "evidence" provided has left the justification for the strike under intense scrutiny.
