Jordan holds a secure strategic reserve of essential goods, including wheat, rice, sugar, oils, and barley, the Minister of Industry, Trade, and Supply, Yarob Al-Qudah, said Wednesday, amid the ongoing regional war and the ensuing aftermath.

Wheat and Barley Supplies

Al-Qudah said the kingdom’s wheat reserves currently cover 10 months of consumption.

Six months of stock are stored locally, while the remaining four months are covered by contracted shipments either en route or awaiting loading at ports.

For barley used in animal feed, total reserves and contracted supplies are sufficient for about nine months.

Stock Levels

Al-Qudah provided figures for essential commodities available in markets and with traders:

  • Rice: sufficient for four months and three days.
  • Sugar: over two months and 15 days.
  • Oils: corn and sunflower stocks cover about 1.5 months, while palm and soybean oils last up to four and a half months.
  • Legumes and powdered milk: legumes last 2–6 months, powdered milk about four months.

He said that these figures do not include raw materials held by food factories, which reportedly have supplies lasting at least three months.
