US & ‘Israel’ at war with Iran | Day 24 coverage

In the past 24 hours, 'Israeli' emergency service, Magen David Adom (MDA), reported that one person was killed following Iranian missile strikes. The victim, a man in his 60s, died after being hit by shrapnel.

MDA said its crews treated 164 people during the same period, including 150 with physical injuries and 14 suffering from anxiety-related symptoms. Among the injured, 12 are in serious condition with wounds caused by shrapnel and blasts, 20 are in moderate condition, and 88 sustained mild injuries.

The 2026 war between ‘Israel’, the United States, and Iran started on February 28 with the launch of Operation Epic Fury, a joint US-‘Israeli’ military campaign. Nearly 900 coordinated strikes were executed within the initial 12 hours, targeting Iranian missile systems, air defenses, military infrastructure, and senior leadership figures across multiple sites.

The operation resulted in the death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and numerous other high-ranking officials, with explicit objectives of preventing nuclear weapon development, dismantling ballistic missile capabilities, and advancing leadership change.

Iran initiated large-scale retaliatory missile and drone attacks against ‘Israeli’ settlements, US bases, and allied targets throughout the Middle East.

The escalation also encompassed disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, where Iranian forces shut it down; heightening risks to global energy supplies.

Subsequent phases featured intensified ‘Israeli’ airstrikes on Iranian fuel depots and energy facilities in Tehran and surrounding provinces, complemented by US efforts to neutralize naval assets and remaining missile infrastructure.

The war produced over 2,000 reported deaths across Iran, ‘Israel’, and Lebanon.

Economic effects have included sharp increases in oil prices and interruptions to international shipping, prompting releases from strategic petroleum reserves to stabilize markets.

Iran says messages exchanged with US via mediators to ease tensions

A senior Iranian official told Al Jazeera that messages have been exchanged between Tehran and Washington through Egypt and Turkey, describing the communication as a goodwill effort to reduce tensions.

The official said US President Donald Trump does not have the authority to impose conditions or deadlines on negotiations, adding that Washington has so far refused two key demands: compensation and recognition of what Iran described as aggression against it.

The official also warned that options such as closing the Strait of Hormuz and deploying naval mines remain under consideration in response to any “reckless” US action.

Once again, Iran denies any negotiations with US, calls Trump claims false

Iranian Foreign Ministry officials and senior leaders have rejected US President Donald Trump’s claims of talks with Tehran, saying no negotiations have taken place. The ministry confirmed that while messages from friendly countries conveyed a US request for talks, Iran responded according to its established positions and did not engage in direct discussions.

Iranian state television reported that recent US efforts, including mediation by neighboring countries, were met with no response from Tehran.

Officials emphasized that Trump’s claims of negotiations are “false” and framed them as a tactic to save face amid perceived setbacks in dealing with Iran.

The statements underscore the continued gap between US assertions and Iran’s official stance on diplomatic engagement.

Iran retracts denial of US talks, fueling speculation

Iranian official sources have withdrawn earlier statements denying any contact or negotiations with US President Donald Trump’s administration, in a move that has sparked questions about behind-the-scenes diplomacy.

The sudden reversal comes hours after Trump confirmed a round of talks involving his envoys Steve Whitkof and Jared Kushner. Observers suggest the retraction may signal the credibility of reports on intense Egyptian and Turkish mediation aimed at defusing a potential “energy war.”

Experts view the shift through two lenses: diplomatically, Tehran may be allowing regional mediators to work without embarrassment from repeated public denials; tactically, it could be an effort to absorb US pressure and calm markets while awaiting the outcome of “exchanged messages” on protecting energy facilities.

Despite retracting the denial, Iran has maintained a “cautious silence” without confirming the meetings directly, leaving the region in uncertainty. While Trump emphasizes a “complete and comprehensive solution” on the horizon, Iran appears to be quietly recalibrating its negotiating position.

Trump also suggested a leadership shift in Iran, saying, “There’s automatically a regime change, but we’re dealing with some people that I find to be very reasonable, very solid,” and added, “The people within know who they are. They’re very respected, and maybe one of them will be exactly what we’re looking for.”

Trump says US speaking to 'top person' in Iran, not supreme leader

US President Donald Trump said Washington is in contact with a “top person” in Iran, though not the supreme leader, as efforts to reach an understanding allegedly continue.

Speaking to reporters before boarding Air Force One in Palm Beach, Trump added, “If it goes well, we're going to end up with settling this,” in reference to the five-day postponement of energy strikes but cautioned, “Otherwise, we'll just keep bombing our little hearts out.”

He added that talks have achieved “major points of agreement,” while stressing that Tehran must give up its stockpile of enriched uranium as part of any deal.

Although Trump said negotiations aimed at de-escalating the conflict are ongoing, Iranian officials completely denied any talks with Washington.
