Starmer: UK launches largest evacuation since Afghanistan

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer described the current regional crisis as "the largest since the Cold War," announcing extensive military and logistical measures to protect UK interests and citizens in the Middle East.

Starmer revealed that four Typhoon fighter jets have been deployed to Qatar to strengthen British air operations in the region and respond to potential threats to regional security.

Evacuation surpassing Afghanistan scale

In a sensitive statement, the Prime Minister said the UK is managing a citizen evacuation operation that exceeds in scale and complexity the 2021 Afghanistan evacuation. He added that the government has prepared plans to address all challenges arising from the escalating situation.

Cyprus serves as Mediterranean operations hub

To coordinate these efforts, the UK defense minister is currently in Cyprus, directing the operations center and overseeing British forces in the eastern Mediterranean. British bases on the island serve as the main launch point for evacuation efforts and military support.
