Oman’s Maritime Security Center announced Sunday that the oil tanker SKYLIGHT, flying the flag of Palau, was targeted in a military attack five nautical miles north of Khasab Port in Musandam, the northernmost governorate of the Sultanate of Oman.
The center confirmed that all 20 crew members, including 15 Indians and five Iranians, were evacuated. Four crew members sustained varying injuries and were transferred for medical treatment. Rescue operations were carried out in coordination between Omani military and civilian authorities.
The incident came on the second day of US and 'Israeli' attacks on Iran, amid threats from Iran’s Revolutionary Guard of a severe response. According to Iran’s Tasnim News Agency, warning messages were sent to vessels advising them not to enter the Strait of Hormuz, which it described as effectively closed.
The escalation has triggered major global economic developments. Gold prices surged above 5,200 dollars per ounce, while Brent crude rose to 73 dollars per barrel, its highest level in seven months. Several international shipping companies announced the suspension of operations through the Arabian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz, raising concerns over disruptions to maritime supply chains.
