The Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said on Monday it is closely monitoring the implications of Iraq’s submission to the United Nations of coordinates and maps related to maritime areas between Iraq and Kuwait.
The ministry stressed the importance of respecting international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, and relevant agreements signed between the two countries.
Spokesperson Ambassador Fuad Al Majali reaffirmed Jordan’s steadfast support for Kuwait’s sovereignty over its land and maritime territories, and for the country’s territorial integrity.
He emphasized the importance of dialogue to resolve disputes based on international law, respecting state sovereignty, and promoting good neighborly relations.
Such approaches, he said, help strengthen the brotherly ties between Iraq and Kuwait, safeguard their interests, and contribute to security and stability in the region.
