US President Donald Trump announced Saturday that he will increase the temporary tariff on US imports from all countries from 10% to 15%.
The tariff was initially imposed after the US Supreme Court struck down his signature emergency-based trade program.
Trump ordered the 10% levy immediately following the court’s ruling, which allowed him to impose tariffs of up to 15% for 150 days. Legal challenges remain possible.
During this period, the administration plans to work on issuing new tariffs that are “legally permissible,” according to Trump.
In a post on Truth Social, he said the increase targets countries “many of which have been “ripping” the U.S. off for decades” and emphasized that the full 15% rate is now authorized.
