Jamal Rushdi, spokesperson for the Secretary-General, said Aboul Gheit described the remarks as “contrary to all diplomatic norms and established practices,” as well as “illogical and inconsistent with US policies,” suggesting they were intended to appeal to right-wing audiences in ‘Israel’.
Rushdi added that such extremist statements, lacking any legitimate basis, inflame religious and national sentiments at a time when countries are gathering under the Peace Council to explore ways to implement the Gaza peace agreement and seize the opportunity for a serious diplomatic track.
