  • Two killed and four injured in a high school hockey game shooting in Rhode Island, USA; suspect also dead.

At least two people were killed and four others wounded Monday afternoon in a shooting at the Dennis M. Lynch Arena in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, during a high school hockey game, local officials said.

The suspected shooter is also dead, police confirmed.

The incident occurred around 2 p.m. local time as teams made up of students from area schools were playing in the arena. Pawtucket Mayor’s Office officials said a young girl was among the victims who died.

Authorities say the suspected gunman died at the scene, and no additional suspects are being sought. Agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were assisting local and state law enforcement at the scene, according to officials.

Several people were hospitalized with injuries, though details on their conditions have not been released. Schools whose students were participating said they were working with authorities to account for families and ensure safety.

Law enforcement cordoned off the area as police secured the arena and launched an investigation. Rhode Island Gov. Dan McKee said he was monitoring the situation and expressed support for all those affected by the tragedy.

This shooting marks another deadly firearms incident in the state following a mass shooting in Providence late last year.
