  • French president urges EU to use “Greenland moment” to push reforms and consider common borrowing.

French President Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday warned that Europe should prepare for further confrontations with the US and treat the recent “Greenland moment” as a signal to accelerate long-delayed economic reforms and strengthen the EU’s global influence.

In interviews with several European newspapers, including Le Monde and Financial Times, Macron stressed that a temporary lull in US-EU tensions should not be mistaken for a permanent change, despite apparent resolutions over Greenland, trade, and technology disputes.

“When faced with clear acts of aggression, we should not bow down or seek compromises,” Macron said. “We have tried that approach for months, and it hasn’t worked.” He described the Trump administration as openly anti-European, seeking to weaken and divide the EU.

Macron warned that the US could target Europe over digital regulations, including potential import tariffs, if the EU implements its Digital Services Act to regulate tech companies.

The French president also reiterated his call for new common borrowing mechanisms, such as eurobonds, to enable large-scale EU investments and reduce dependence on the US dollar.
