  • ‘Israeli’ former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant accused Prime Minister Netanyahu of "engineering a false narrative" and "stitching together" selective quotes to shift blame for the October 7 security failures away from himself and onto security chiefs.
  • Gallant said Netanyahu prioritizes self-preservation and his political coalition over ‘Israel’s’ interests, specifically alleging that the Prime Minister "stabbed security chiefs in the back" and misrepresented military delays—such as the Rafah assault—which Gallant attributed to munition shortages rather than apprehension.

Former ‘Israeli’ Defense Minister Yoav Gallant has accused Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of being a "liar" in a scathing interview broadcast on Channel 12 on Saturday.

Gallant, who was dismissed from his position in late 2024, claimed that Netanyahu has constructed a false narrative around the events of October 7, 2023 to avoid personal accountability for the security failures that led to it.

Gallant charged Netanyahu with "stitching together" a misleading account of events preceding October 7, using selective quotes from cabinet discussions to shift blame onto rivals and security chiefs.

According to Gallant, Netanyahu's submission of a 55-page document to the state comptroller's investigation into the attack represents an attempt to "engineer the narrative" by omitting key intelligence warnings and misrepresenting deliberations.

In the interview, Gallant asserted that Netanyahu "stabbed security chiefs in the back" by inciting government ministers against them while they were in office.

He described Netanyahu's priorities as self-preservation first, followed by his coalition, with the ‘Israel’s’ interests coming last.

Addressing the assault on Gaza, Gallant disputed Netanyahu's explanation for the delay in the Rafah assault in early 2024.

He stated that the postponement was necessitated by a shortage of munitions, which had been redirected for potential northern conflicts, rather than due to apprehension among generals as Netanyahu had claimed.

Gallant served as defense minister for over a year following October 7, collaborating closely with Netanyahu on military operations in Gaza and Lebanon.

His ousting in November 2024 marked the second time Netanyahu had fired him; the first occurred in March 2023 amid Gallant's warnings about risks from judicial reforms, but was reversed due to public outcry.

Gallant resigned from the Knesset in January 2025, prompting expulsion proceedings from the Likud party.

The interview comes amid an ongoing state comptroller investigation into the October 7 failures, which was frozen by ‘Israel's’ High Court in December 2025 over procedural concerns.

Netanyahu has advocated for a politically appointed commission, while opposition figures demand a full judicial inquiry.

Opposition leader Yair Lapid responded swiftly on the same day, releasing a 12-page rebuttal accusing Netanyahu of manipulating documents to erase his responsibility.
