Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi arrived in Oman on Friday to participate in nuclear negotiations with the United States scheduled later in the day.
Tasnim News Agency reported that Araghchi led a high-level diplomatic delegation to Muscat for discussions aimed at reaching a fair and mutually acceptable understanding on Iran’s nuclear program.
On Thursday evening, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baqaei announced via X that Araghchi had departed Tehran with his delegation, emphasizing that the initiative seeks to protect Iranian national interests while maintaining regional peace and stability.
Araghchi expressed gratitude to neighboring and regional countries for their supportive roles in the negotiations and hoped that the US would participate with “responsibility, realism, and seriousness.”
Tensions and threats remain
Earlier reports indicated that the talks, initially rumored canceled, would proceed on Friday morning in Muscat. The meetings come amid escalating threats from the United States and its ally 'Israel' of possible military strikes aimed at halting Iran’s nuclear and missile programs.
Iran maintains that the US seeks a pretext for foreign intervention to change its regime and warns of a “comprehensive and unprecedented” response to any attack, even a limited one. Tehran insists its nuclear program is purely peaceful, including for electricity generation, while the US and 'Israel' allege efforts to develop nuclear weapons.
