  • Governor demands federal agents withdraw and state authorities handle the investigation.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz accused the Trump administration of fabricating narratives before an official investigation into a shooting that occurred during an attempt by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) teams to detain a man in Minneapolis.

In a statement Saturday, Walz said ICE practices “lack professionalism,” noting that video footage of the incident contradicts claims made by federal officials.

“The highest figures in the federal government are trying to build a pre-determined narrative by fabricating stories and circulating images of weapons and individuals unrelated to the incident, with no verified information available,” he said.

Calls for state-led investigation

Walz emphasized that the videos reflect the actual events and described federal claims as “baseless.” He called on the White House to remove federal agents from the state and allow Minnesota authorities to lead the investigation.

Victim details

During the incident, a 37-year-old American citizen from Minneapolis was shot. Police Chief Brian O’Hara confirmed the man had no criminal record, legally purchased the firearm, and held a valid permit.

Context of protests

The shooting occurred amid protests following the death of a US citizen woman shot by ICE agents in her car on January 7 during operations targeting immigrants. Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem had claimed the woman attempted to run over officers, a claim refuted by Walz, who reviewed the video personally.

Governor Walz’s statements underscore ongoing tensions between federal immigration enforcement and state authorities, with concerns over misinformation and accountability at the center of public debate.
