UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer discussed British soldiers' “sacrifices” in Afghanistan in a call with Donald Trump Saturday after the US President angered allies by claiming NATO troops there had avoided the front line.

"The Prime Minister raised the brave and heroic British and American soldiers who fought side by side in Afghanistan, many of whom never returned home," said a Downing Street spokesperson. "We must never forget their sacrifice."

The leaders also discussed the need for bolstered security in the Arctic, "the importance" of the UK-US relationship and agreed to speak "soon", the spokesperson added.
