Lebanon’s National News Agency reported that the perimeter of a Lebanese army unit came under direct fire from a tank belonging to 'Israeli' forces while the unit was carrying out a joint field mission with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon, UNIFIL.

The incident took place in the Wadi al-Asafir area, south of the town of Khiam in the eastern sector, where the patrol was conducting routine checks along the border.

Violation of Resolution 1701

According to an official statement, the attack caused no injuries among Lebanese army personnel or UNIFIL forces.

Reports described the gunfire as a clear violation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701, which prohibits hostilities in the border area and calls for the protection of peacekeeping forces and civilians.

Field sources said the tank opened fire unexpectedly toward the joint force’s position, prompting the patrol to take immediate precautionary measures to ensure its safety.
