The initiatives aim to address current infrastructure challenges, increase the capacity for cargo and passenger traffic, and align with Jordan’s broader economic modernization strategy.

Jaber crossing: full restructuring and smart systems

The Jaber border development project is a priority, targeting a radical overhaul of services at this vital northern crossing. Technical plans include:

  • Infrastructure upgrades: Expansion and modernization of existing buildings, removal of outdated facilities, and replacement of structures that no longer meet operational standards.
  • Cargo facility improvement: Redesigning and enhancing cargo areas to ensure smooth goods flow and reduce waiting times.
  • Security and automation: Installation of advanced electronic and security systems to ensure accurate inspections and faster processing.

The project seeks to increase operational efficiency, improve traveler experience, enhance border security, and facilitate trade with Syria and beyond to Europe and Lebanon.

Al-Karama center: a brand-new gateway to Iraq

On Jordan’s eastern frontier, the Al-Karama development project involves designing, building, and operating a completely new border facility (Greenfield Project).

The new center will serve as the main gateway linking Jordan and Iraq, functioning as a regional logistics hub for transit trade to Gulf and Iraqi markets, supporting broader regional connectivity projects.

These initiatives reflect Jordan’s commitment to transforming geographic challenges into investment opportunities, through advanced, smart border gateways that meet international trade requirements in the 21st century.
