  • Lebanese President announces army control over southern Litani and removal of illegal weapons.
  • Government emphasizes return of full state authority across all Lebanese territory.

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun announced that the Lebanese army has successfully taken control of southern Litani and cleared the area of illegal weapons.

“We are working to ensure that southern Lebanon, like all our international borders, is under the sole authority of our armed forces,” Aoun said. He stressed the government’s commitment to restoring full state control across the country.

“Despite all provocations, accusations, and attacks, we will continue to fulfill our duty toward the state,” the president added.

The army has maintained operational control over southern Litani for more than ten months. Between August 5 and September 5, the government achieved significant progress in consolidating weapons exclusively under state authority, a development Aoun described as “far from insignificant.”

The announcement signals Lebanon’s continued efforts to strengthen state sovereignty and reduce the presence of non-state armed groups along its southern border.
