  • Syrian Interior Ministry opens investigation into alleged massacres by SDF in Hasaka.
  • Investigation follows viral videos and reports of field executions of Arab families.

The Syrian Ministry of Interior announced Sunday evening that it has opened investigations into reports of massacres in Hasaka province, which is under the control of the SDF armed group.

The statement followed the circulation of videos on social media showing fighters of the SDF, the Syrian affiliate of the "YPG" terrorist organization, committing violent acts in Hasaka after signing a ceasefire agreement with the Syrian government.

Reports of Field Executions

Syrian activists reported that the group carried out field executions targeting Arab families in Hasaka, reportedly as retaliation for defeats suffered against the Syrian army in recent days.

The Interior Ministry said it is following the reports "with utmost seriousness" and confirmed that its specialized agencies "immediately began the necessary procedures to verify the information."

Ceasefire Agreement and SDF Integration

Earlier Sunday, Syrian President Ahmad al-Shar announced a ceasefire agreement and the integration of SDF into government structures. Under the 14-point deal, civil institutions under SDF control will be merged with Syrian state institutions, and SDF fighters will be incorporated individually into the Ministry of Defense. Key border crossings, oil, and gas fields will return to government control.

The agreement also stipulates the immediate and full administrative and military handover of Deir Ezzor and Raqqa provinces to the Syrian government.

Context of Military Operations

The ceasefire follows a recent Syrian army operation that reclaimed large areas in eastern and northeastern Syria after repeated SDF violations of previous agreements over the past ten months. The March 2025 agreement, which SDF had failed to implement, called for equal rights for Kurdish and other communities, integration of civil and military institutions, reopening of border crossings and airports, and the withdrawal of SDF forces east of the Euphrates.

The Syrian government has been intensifying efforts to secure full control over national territory since the fall of the Assad regime on December 8, 2024.
