  • Syria has announced agreements with Jordan to supply gas and boost electrical cooperation, with technical studies underway to launch the partnership in the coming days.
  • Following the military's reclamation of eastern Syria, technical teams are assessing the Euphrates Dam and the Babiri pumping station, reporting significant sabotage by departing SDF forces.

Syria and Jordan signed agreements to facilitate gas supplies and cooperate on electricity, according to Syria’s Director of Government Communication at the Ministry of Energy, Ahmad al-Sulayman.

Al-Sulayman said that technical assessments are currently being finalized to initiate this cooperation within the next few days.

Assessment of Reclaimed Facilities in Eastern Syria

The announcement follows the Syrian Army's recent takeover of vital infrastructure in the east, including oil fields and the Euphrates Dam from the Kurdish Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

Technical teams have conducted field inspections of several key sites, including the Euphrates Dam, the Babiri water stations, and various oil fields.

Al-Sulayman noted that the oil fields are in a state of advanced decay, requiring detailed technical studies for rehabilitation before they can be reintegrated into the national economy.

The Euphrates Dam remains Syria's largest infrastructure asset, housing sophisticated power generation systems and substantial water reserves.

However, officials stated the facility requires comprehensive maintenance following years of "unregulated use."

The Strategic Importance of Babiri

The Director highlighted the Babiri station on the Euphrates River as one of the largest pumping facilities in the Middle East. As the primary water and energy feeder for the city of Aleppo and its surrounding countryside, the station is a priority for the government. Technical teams have begun evaluating its condition to establish a strict maintenance schedule.

Deliberate Sabotage and Reconstruction Hurdles

Syrian officials reported extensive and deliberate sabotage at several sites. Al-Sulayman revealed that bridges near the Babiri station were demolished shortly before the withdrawal of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

The Ministry held the SDF responsible for the recent destruction of service infrastructure. "National technical teams will work at full capacity to overcome these obstacles," Al-Sulayman said.
