- Munich Security Conference rescinds invitation to Iranian foreign minister.
- Decision follows Tehran’s crackdown on nationwide protests.
The Munich Security Conference, one of the world’s leading security forums, announced Friday that it has withdrawn its invitation to Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi following Tehran’s violent crackdown on protests this week, Reuters reported.
In an emailed statement, the organizers said, “Several weeks ago, invitations were extended to Iranian government representatives. In light of current events, the Munich Security Conference will no longer maintain these invitations.”

This year’s conference, which brings together security experts and policymakers, is scheduled for February 13–15. Organizers noted that they aim to invite participants who can provide significant political insights but always take current political developments into account when finalizing the guest list.
The German Foreign Ministry supported the decision, stating that Berlin opposes inviting Iranian officials in light of reports that thousands have been killed in the crackdown on anti-government protests.
