Gaza mediators Egypt, Qatar and Turkey said Wednesday that former Palestinian deputy minister Ali Shaath would lead a new technocratic committee tasked with administering post-war Gaza.
The mediators in a joint statement described the committee's creation as "an important development contributing to efforts to consolidate stability and improve humanitarian conditions" in the war-battered Palestinian territory.
They added that they hoped its formation would "pave the way for implementing" the second phase of the US-brokered ceasefire agreement.

Shaath is a seasoned Palestinian economist and civil servant.
He is originally from Khan Yunis in southern Gaza and currently resides in the occupied West Bank.
He holds a PhD in civil engineering from Queen’s University in Belfast, UK, earned in 1989, with a focus on urban infrastructure planning, an area that has defined much of his professional career.
Over the years, Shaath has held several prominent roles in the Palestinian Authority:
- Former Deputy Minister of Planning
- Assistant Undersecretary at the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation since 1995
- Acting Undersecretary at the Ministry of Transport
- CEO of the Palestinian Industrial Estates & Free Zones Authority (PIEFZA)
- Advisor and project director in economic development, infrastructure, and post-conflict reconstruction
- Known for his expertise in economic development, infrastructure planning, industrial policy, and cross-border economic integration
The committee led by Shaath will operate under the Trump-led “Board of Peace” plan announced in September 2025, also envisaging deployment of an international stabilization force in Gaza.
