- Minnesota sues Trump administration to halt ICE deployment after fatal shooting.
- Lawsuit claims federal action violates constitution and threatens public safety.
Minnesota has filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration, seeking to halt the deployment of hundreds of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents to the state following the fatal shooting of a woman by an officer.
Attorney General Keith Ellison said in a Monday statement that ICE agents were sent to Minnesota under what he described as “false pretenses”, including investigations into alleged misuse of child care funds.
Federal Presence Challenged
Ellison called the increased ICE presence part of a broader federal operation unrelated to the stated objectives of the agency. The lawsuit, filed on behalf of Minnesota and the cities of Minneapolis and Saint Paul, asks the court to issue an emergency order to stop what it described as an “unprecedented deployment” of ICE officers.

The filing claims the action violates the U.S. Constitution and endangers public safety and residents’ rights.
Video Captures Fatal Encounter
Footage circulating on social media last Wednesday shows the incident in Minneapolis. The woman was inside her car in the middle of the street, observing ICE activity, when an officer attempted to force open her door.
As another officer approached the front of the vehicle, the driver tried to flee by steering away. The officer then drew his weapon and fired three close-range shots.

Bystanders captured the event on their phones, shouting “shame on you” at the officers. Attempts were made to administer first aid after the vehicle stopped following a collision with parked cars.
The case raises questions over the federal role in local enforcement and the accountability of ICE officers amid escalating tensions in Minnesota.
