Jordanian national team striker Yazan Al-Naimat is set to undergo knee surgery in Doha, Qatar, on Wednesday, a source from the local football federation told Agence France-Presse (AFP).

The Al-Arabi SC forward sustained a torn cruciate ligament during Jordan’s Arab Cup quarter-final match against Iraq, an injury that will sideline him for several months.

- Injury details and impact -

Naimat, 26, was injured in the seventh minute of the match and briefly returned to the field after initial treatment, only to leave permanently after experiencing pain during a free kick while standing in the defensive wall. He was replaced by young striker Odeh Al-Fakhoury in the 13th minute and carried off on a stretcher.

- Surgery and recovery -

Jordan’s coach, Moroccan Jamal Sellami, who guided Al-Nashama to their first-ever World Cup appearance, said on Monday that the operation had a 100 percent success rate. “The recovery rehabilitation remains linked to the player’s will, his body’s response, and his mental preparation. We hope he will be able to participate in the World Cup,” Sellami added.

- Key player for Jordan -

Naimat is considered one of the national team’s central figures, alongside Stade Rennais F.C. striker Musa Al-Taamari, who played a pivotal role in Jordan’s historic World Cup qualification and their runner-up finish in the last Asian Cup. Jordan has been drawn in a World Cup group alongside defending champions Argentina, Algeria, and Austria.

Naimat’s recent performances have also attracted attention from Egypt’s league champions, Al-Ahly Club.
