  • Planned attacks targeted Orange County and Los Angeles.
  • Suspects accused of preparing bombings starting on New Year’s Eve.

The US Justice Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation uncovered a major terrorism plot in California, according to US Attorney General Pam Bondi, Reuters reported.

Bondi said the plot targeted Orange County and Los Angeles County and was described as “large-scale and horrific”.

A far-left extremist group was preparing to carry out a series of bombings beginning on New Year’s Eve.

"The Turtle Island Liberation Front—a far-left, pro-Palestine, anti-government, and anti-capitalist group—was preparing to conduct a series of bombings against multiple targets in California beginning on New Year’s Eve. The group also planned to target ICE agents and vehicles," Bondi claimed in a statement.

Bondi added that the suspects planned to target Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents and vehicles as part of the plot.

She said authorities disrupted the operation before it could be carried out and emphasized that federal agencies would continue pursuing extremist groups.

“We will continue to track down terrorist organizations and hold those responsible accountable”, the attorney general said, according to Reuters.
