  • More than 900 people fled South Kordofan in three days.
  • Displacement reported from Kadugli, al-Kuwayk, and Dilling.
  • Families moved mainly to North Kordofan, White Nile, and Khartoum.

More than 900 people have been displaced from South Kordofan state in southern Sudan over the past three days as security conditions deteriorated, the International Organization for Migration said Sunday.

In separate statements, the UN agency said its displacement tracking teams estimated that 365 people fled the city of Kadugli between December 11 and 13 amid rising insecurity. During the same period, another 85 people were forced to leave the town of al-Kuwayk in South Kordofan’s eastern rural areas.

IOM added that 455 people also fled the city of Dilling within the same three-day window due to escalating violence.

- Displacement routes and concerns -

According to the organization, displaced families moved to several locations, primarily in North Kordofan state, as well as White Nile state in southern Sudan and Khartoum state in the center of the country.

“The situation remains highly volatile and tense,” IOM said, noting that it continues to closely monitor developments on the ground.

- Widening conflict -

The surge in displacement comes as fighting intensifies between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, along with their ally, the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North.

UN estimates indicate that more than 41,000 people were displaced by escalating violence in North and South Kordofan during November alone. Weeks of heavy clashes across the three Kordofan states have forced tens of thousands to flee.

Since the conflict erupted in April 2023, fighting between the Sudanese army and the RSF has killed thousands and displaced millions across the country, as control remains divided between the two sides.
