  • Sakhr Ahmad Khalil Zghoul dies in Ofer Prison under administrative detention.
  • Death comes four days after another detainee from Husan died.
  • At least 86 Palestinians have died in Israeli custody since October 2023.

Another Palestinian detainee has died in 'Israeli' custody, rights groups reported Sunday.

Sakhr Ahmad Khalil Zghoul, 26, from the town of Husan west of Bethlehem in the southern West Bank, passed away inside 'Israel’s' Ofer Prison near Ramallah, according to a joint statement by the Palestinian Prisoner Society and the Palestinian Commission of Detainees Affairs. The statement did not provide details on the circumstances of his death.

Zghoul had been held without trial or charge under 'Israel’s' administrative detention policy since June 11. His brother is also detained without charge. His death occurred just four days after another detainee from Husan died in custody.

Palestinian authorities report that over 9,300 Palestinians are currently held in 'Israeli' prisons, including more than 50 women and roughly 350 children, in addition to those detained in 'Israeli' army camps. Since October 2023, at least 86 detainees have died in 'Israeli' custody, while rights groups estimate the number exceeds 100.

“What Israel’s system of brutality is inflicting on prisoners and detainees amounts to nothing less than a systematic genocide,” the statement said.
