  • Mosul doctor arrested for setting his wife on fire in shocking domestic attack.

In a shocking incident that has shaken Iraqi society, the Nineveh Police Command announced on Saturday the arrest of a doctor accused of committing a brutal crime against his wife, who is also a physician. The suspect allegedly poured gasoline on his wife and set her on fire following a domestic dispute.

According to an official statement posted on the police’s Facebook page, the “Abi Tamam” Police Department, in direct coordination with the Intelligence and Information Technology Division, acted swiftly after receiving a report of the violent attack in the Nerkal neighborhood on the left side of Mosul.

The statement revealed that the suspect ambushed his wife while she was in her private car. He reportedly broke the vehicle’s window to reach her and then poured highly flammable gasoline over her face and body before igniting it, leaving her with severe burns primarily on her face and hands.

Police teams, using surveillance camera footage from the area, tracked the suspect’s movements after the attack and located him hiding in the Sarjkhana area. He was subsequently arrested and handed over to the competent authorities for legal proceedings.

Medical sources cited by local Iraqi media reported that the victim was rushed to a Mosul hospital, where she remains in intensive care under close medical supervision. Her condition has been described as critical, with burns covering approximately 40 percent of her body, including second- and third-degree burns, posing a serious threat to her life.

This tragic case has sparked widespread outrage and renewed calls for stricter measures against domestic violence in Iraq.
