• UNRWA says Storm Byron has caused severe flooding and damage in Gaza.
• Thousands of tents housing war survivors are soaked, leaving families exposed to cold.
• UNRWA teams are providing shelter, medical care, and flood relief.
The United Nations agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) said Thursday that severe weather has added to the suffering of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
“People who had already lost everything & need everything face another layer of misery,” UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini said on social media platform X.
Storm Byron, which has affected several countries including Gaza, brought heavy rains that worsened conditions for displaced families living in makeshift shelters. UNRWA reported that the storm caused floods, property damage, and increased health risks for those already struggling.

UNRWA teams are working on the ground to provide shelter materials and medical care, pump out sewage and floodwater, clear debris, and distribute tarpaulins to affected families.
Since Wednesday, thousands of tents sheltering survivors of 'Israel’s' recent war have been flooded, soaking bedding, clothing, and food, leaving hundreds of families without adequate warmth or protection.
The agency says Gaza needs roughly 300,000 tents and prefabricated housing units to cover basic shelter needs following the destruction of infrastructure during two years of 'Israeli' attacks.
