A baby girl has died on Thursday in a flooded tent in Khan Younis as severe weather continues to affect displaced families in the Gaza Strip.
Medics told Reuters that eight-month-old Rahaf Abu Jazar succumbed to cold exposure after water gathered in her family’s tent amid heavy rainfall.
Her mother, Hejar Abu Jazar, recounted the tragic moment: “It kept raining, and the cold was getting worse. Suddenly, I found my little baby motionless, dead. There was nothing wrong with her. Oh, the fire in my heart, oh my life,” she said, weeping.
Gaza’s Civil Defense said that most tent camps across the enclave have been flooded, with rescue teams receiving more than 2,500 calls for assistance from Palestinians struggling in the storm.
The extreme weather has compounded the hardships faced by families displaced due to ongoing violence in the region.
