• Yacht faces technical issues and is heading to Haifa
Cypriot rescuers have located a yacht that went missing two days ago off the Mediterranean island, Cypriot state television reported Wednesday.
The vessel, which sailed from 'Israel' over a week ago, is reported to have all passengers safe.
Officials said the 'Israeli' passengers did not request assistance, and the yacht is now en route to the port of Haifa after encountering technical difficulties.
- Journey and last known location -
The yacht departed on December 2, heading toward the Greek island of Crete. The Joint Rescue Coordination Center had recorded its last known position on December 8, about 89 nautical miles (165 kilometers) from Paphos in western Cyprus.
Local media confirmed that the yacht was spotted off Limassol in southern Cyprus around 4:30 PM local time on Wednesday.
- Storm impacts search -
The disappearance coincided with Storm Byron, which brought heavy rain and strong winds to Cyprus. The storm caused major disruptions across the eastern Mediterranean, reducing visibility and complicating search efforts.
